Abstract
My completed project for my spring 2015 FUSE award is two short documentary videos about the impact of Meningitis and the importance of vaccinating against this devastating disease. Most people are not aware of the risk of Meningitis or the availability of a vaccine against it. In addition, the Nebraska LB 18 bill mandating the Meningitis vaccine is also currently being advocated; however, it was recently filibustered. As such, I sought to address these public health issues in this project. The family of a young woman whose life was abruptly ended by Meningitis volunteered to be interviewed for this important cause. I created two short videos from these interviews, one specifically about the LB18 bill and the other about their experience of losing a loved one to Meningitis and the benefits of the Meningitis vaccine. They agreed to share their heartbreaking story with the hopes that these films will raise awareness of Meningitis and encourage people to be vaccinated.
