Abstract

The legal authority to provide a system of public education rests with the state; thus, the state constitution and legislative statutes authorizing school districts are sources of that district's power. It is, however, left to the voters of the local school district to elect the citizens who will govern the schools and determine policy within the parameters established by constitutional and legislative provisions. As an agency of the state, one of the school board's most important jobs is to see that the state's education laws and the rules and regulations of the state are implemented in the school district.
