Abstract

Developing communication and speech skills in nonverbal and speech limited moderately and severely mentally retarded children and adults has been a concern of speech pathologists and special educators for many years. When traditional methods of verbal language training have met with limited or no success, teachers and speech pathologists have had to seek alternative methods of communication for their nonverbal and speech limited mentally retarded students.
