Abstract

Lately I’ve been thinking a lot about targets. The very word “target” brings to mind the image of a red and white bullseye riddled with holes from many rounds of darts. Our public schools are often the target of attacks on teacher quality. Media attention has recently expanded beyond our P-12 partners to our colleges of education as politicians find new ways to talk about a target for teacher quality. Educator preparation programs have some faculty members feeling as if they have been poked by the darts of the media and special interest groups who are looking to take a stab at how teachers are prepared for the classroom.
