Why we do the Decennial Census
The Decennial Census is mandated by the US Constitution
• Article 1, Section 2 of the US Constitution
• Has been conducted every 10 years since 1790
Local Community Benefits
• Census data determines the seats each state has in the US House of Representatives
• Determines the amount of federal funds distributed to each state $685 billion nationwide annually
- Nebraska received over $2.5 billion in Federal Dollars in FY2017**
- Approximately cost Nebraska $1,342 per person per year for each person undercounted
