“New Horizons in Hispanic Linguistics”

Omaha, Nebraska

The 2024 Hispanic Linguistics Symposium will be hosted by the University of Nebraska at Kearny, University of Nebraska at Lincoln, and the University of Nebraska at Omaha and take place at the University of Nebraska at Omaha campus.

We are pleased to welcome submissions for presentations, roundtable discussions, academic panels, and posters. This year’s theme, “New Horizons in Hispanic Linguistics” is a broad and dynamic theme that encompasses a wide range of research topics and approaches within the field of Hispanic Linguistics. This theme reflects the exploration of novel and innovative areas of study in the Spanish and Portuguese languages and their varieties, as well as the evolving sociocultural context in which they are spoken. We encourage both practical and theoretical approaches to research in areas such as:

Presentations

Formal presentations are single authored or co-authored research that contributes to original knowledge to linguistics and its subfields. These are 20-minute presentations followed by a 10-minute question and answer session.

Round Discussions

Roundtable sessions encourage open discussion and dialogue among a group of experts on a specific topic. The session begins with an introduction and welcome from a moderator followed by brief opening statements by the discussants. The core of the roundtable is an open discussion among the participants. Round tables are scheduled for 60 minutes.

Panels

A panel discussion is a structured conversation of up to five participants and one moderator. These bring together multiple experts to present their insights, research findings, or perspective on a specific topic. The individual presentations are followed by a discussion session. Panels are 60-90 minutes.

Posters

Poster presentations offer a platform for researchers, scholars, and professionals to share their work, gather feedback, and engage in discussions with a diverse audience.

Submission Guidelines:

Format:

  • Presentations, roundtable discussions, academic panels, and posters may be delivered in English, Portuguese, or Spanish.
  • Interested contributors should include a 350-word anonymized abstract in Spanish, English or Portuguese by May 20th. Please indicate for which type of presentation you are submitting.
  • Authors may submit up to two abstracts, one individual and one co-authored.
