The Department of Sociology/Anthropology is committed to excellence in teaching, research, and community engagement, grounded in but not bound by our disciplines. We: provide undergraduate and graduate students with an education rooted in key concepts of the social sciences; emphasize multiple theoretical and methodological perspectives that contribute to the understanding of social inequality, differences, and social justice at the local and global level; foster the development of student and faculty projects that contribute to the well-being and education of the local community, especially disadvantaged and underserved populations; strengthen our teaching and research through ongoing interdisciplinary linkages with other departments and programs, such as Latino/Latin American Studies, Native American Studies, Black Studies, and the School of Public Health; and provide an inclusive and welcoming environment for students, staff and faculty from the diverse global community.
