Abstract
Coxsackievirus B3 (CVB3) is a picornavirus that has been identified as a cause of myocarditis and pancreatitis; it has also been linked to type I diabetes. Previous studies have identified the crucial role of viral genomic 5’ untranslated region (5’UTR) in viral virulence. In this project, we utilized selective 2’-hydroxyl acylation analyzed by primer extension (SHAPE) for a complete structural analysis of the 5’UTR of the genomic RNA of the virulent strain of CVB3. We identified regions of high flexibility in the 5’UTR that can be the potential binding sites of the host proteins.
