Abstract
Encryption is a complex and bewildering process, yet it is absolutely foundational for secure and safe activities on the internet. Encryption, in its many forms, ultimately enables identity verification, password protection, secure conversation, cryptocurrency trade, and other online activities. Despite this widespread use, encryption is not a process easily explained to the layperson due to its complexity. Thus, the object of this research is to demystify the process of encryption and provide an understanding of one of the most common forms of modern encryption - RSA Encryption. This will be accomplished through the information provided on my poster as well as an interactive demonstration of my implementation of RSA Encryption. With this understanding as a base, this research will also provide insights into a few supplementary topics, with the intent to increase understanding and appreciation of the unique role and trajectory of encryption in the world today. Among these topics are the controversy surrounding what is known as The Crypto Wars, in which the U.S. Government seeks to establish “backdoors” to circumvent encryption methods, and quantum computing, which will likely shift cryptography toward newer, more powerful methods, such as Elliptic Curve Cryptography.

Additional Information (Optional)
My project includes an implementation of RSA Encryption that I programmed. Being close to a power outlet would be preferable. Thank you!
