Abstract
The current study aims to explain: 1) if there is a relationship between early peer victimization 2) if there is a relationship between early self-esteem and later self-esteem and 3) if there is a relationship in early peer victimization and later self-esteem. A total of 430 fifth- and sixth-graders participated in this study from three different public elementary schools. We found there were a significant positive correlation between earlier and later self-esteem and the correlation between time 1 self-esteem and peer victimization was marginally significant. The study found a marginal relationship for time 1 self esteem and time 1 peer victimization. Future research could look at whether a relationship between self-esteem and peer victimization is different between boys and girls.
