Abstract

Spirit Ingredient is a video game developed on Game Maker by Ethan Robles and Kathy Hoang. The game's premise follows the player entering a dungeon to loot ingredients that they cook and sell. Currently in the initial phases of development, the game serves as a foundation and proof of concept for the gameplay loop and visuals. The development has been an iterative and dynamic process, constantly finding fixes for design and code issues requiring diligent testing, research, and problem solving. While the program's current gameplay loop is shallow, there are multiple intricate systems at work behind the scenes, offering plenty of room for growth. Spirit Ingredient serves as a window for the potential of expression in video games as a medium that lies at the crossroads of creativity and critical thinking.
