Abstract
Leadership in education requires empathy. Empathy is the conduit to engaging students and little is known about empathy in adults (Eisenberg & Fabes, 1990; Hoffman, 2000; ZahnWaxler, Radke-Yarrow, Wagner, & Chapman, 1992) and even less is known about empathy in teachers. This study seeks to measure objective quotients of empathy among educators for the purposes of recruiting and maintaining highly empathetic teachers who might realize greater learning gains.
