Abstract
This study begins with a background of British agricultre followed by an introduction to Cobbett, and a review of the economic and social changes that precipitated the enactment of the Corn Laws in the early nineteenth century. The primary laws under discussion are those of 1804 and 1815. The emphasis of the study is on the reaction to pending legislation.
