Abstract
Having been born and raised in Omaha, I found myself asking the following questions: How did Omaha begin? What were the causes of its growth? Why were early conditions as they were? What were the prospects for future growth and prosperity? The answers to these questions I have tried to find. I have found a great deal of material but I know that there must be much more that I have not been able to locate. The subject with which this thesis deals could and should be treated more fully than I have been able to do here.
