Abstract
Little has been done in the way of collecting and preserving material dealing with local history. In surveying the various aspects of Omaha's history the author found many topic of interest which should be, and presently are not, in a collection. Many items of local interest have already vanished, and others will soon go the same way if proper research is not accomplished. In selecting a topic for research the author discovered that no material had been collected on the Ancient Order of the Knights of Ak-Sar-Ben, an institution which has become an integral part of the city in its sixty-eight years of existence. Thus, the purpose of this study has been to collect material dealing with this civic organization and provide a coherent account of its founding and early history before it is lost for all time.
