Author's Note:
In this poem, I wanted to showcase what I felt and still feel to this day as a sexual assault victim. As I listened to WCA's presentation on sexual violence and trauma informed approaches, they discussed the symptoms and behaviors of victims that have experienced sexual violence. They also explained that victims will have different responses to these traumatic events, reactions can vary in different ways, I wanted to display how I reacted when this traumatic event happened to me. This poem exhibits that shame and hatred that I have for myself, but also gives way to healing and hopeful future.
