International Dialogue
Notes from the Editor
It gives me great pleasure to launch the inaugural volume of International Dialogue: A Multidisciplinary Journal of World Affairs. It has taken a few years from the time of the conception of its idea to now, but this day has finally come because of the work of a number of people. I thank the other editors—Paul Kriese, Jasminka Babić-Avdispahić, Paul A. Williams, and Owen Mourdant—for their fine work during the years leading up to this volume. It is hoped that additional editorial staff will be in place before the 2012 volume. I also thank Kathy A. Schwartz, the editorial assistant, and Elizabeth Pesek, the journal’s first intern. Their knowledge, patience, and dedication have been invaluable to the project.
I send my thanks to the members of the ID editorial boards in North America and Europe—Ivo Banac, Joseph Bien, Susan Buck-Morss, Amila Buturovic, Claudia Card, Adriana Cavarero, David Chandler, Robert Paul Churchill, Terry Clark, Jean Bethke Elshtain, John L. Esposito, Carol C. Gould, Zdravka Grebo, Yaacov Iram, Mark Juergensmeyer, Zayn Kassam, Frank LeVeness, Shuanglin Lin, Tomaz Mastnak, Birgit Sauer, Lynne Segal, Michael Siler, and Ugo Vlaisavljević—for their willingness to serve and for their expert advice. Their ranks will grow in the years to come.
Finally, I thank all those who have served as referees. They have taken time out of their busy schedules to provide expert advice and substantive comments to authors who have submitted work to ID. The external referees who have served ID for this volume are:
