Abstract
This is the song Naacge Haanina Himaisja that has a hand drum preformed by Gabriel Mozart Abeyta and Hōcąk (HoChunk) lyrics sung by Katrina Cox.
Gabriel Mozart Abeyta of the Diné and Taos Pueblo and Navajo Tohjiilee, is a musician, actor, director, and artist (known as “Ugly Pie Art”) living in Sante Fe, New Mexico. His work is featured at the Blue Rain Gallery in Santa Fe, the Colby Museum of Art in Waterville, Maine, and in Metallica’s 2023 short film “Inamorata.” He was raised in the arts, as the son of renowned artist Tony Abeyta and fashion designer Patricia Michaels, and continuously creates and performs around the world.
Dr. Katrina Cox is Assistant Professor of Choral Music Education and Medical Humanities faculty at the University of Nebraska at Omaha. She teaches undergraduate and graduate music education and research courses and directs the Treble University and Nebraska Medical Choirs. Cox maintains an active schedule as national Co-Chair of the Collegiate Advisory Council for the National Association for Music Education, and as a local and regional clinician and adjudicator. She regularly provides professional development for pre-service and in-service teachers and presents her research both nationally and internationally. Her research—presented nationally and internationally—centers on conductor and teacher expertise, effective use of teacher verbalizations, collaborative rehearsing, and the influence of specific teaching strategies on student performance outcomes. Her publications can be found in the Nebraska Music Educator and the Bulletin of the Council for Research in Music Education.
