Abstract
This research brief reviews 17 high-profile vehicle-ramming incidents targeting event venues, festivals, and public gatherings in the United States over the last 56 years. The data reveals an increase in frequency of vehicle-ramming incidents over time (with 41% of documented incidents occurring in the last decade), along with a shift from unintentional or spontaneous acts to deliberate, pre-planned attacks targeting "soft targets" during periods of peak pedestrian density.
