Abstract

COVID-19 has presented challenges and highlighted inequality among Latinos in Omaha. This has been especially true for Latino populations who are predominantly employed in the service and agricultural industry which are high contact jobs. The effects of COVID-19 on jobs, finances, school closure, and mental health especially impacted Latina heads of household who not only participate in the labor sector but also perform care work and were more likely to have to stay home to take care of their families. The purpose of this project is to collect the stories of the impact of COVID-19 on Latinas through oral histories. This methodology can uncover the diverse ways that the pandemic impacted lives and illuminate how community and government organizations can respond to future health crisis.
