Abstract

The Mobilization Indicators Booklet (2021) produced by the National Counterterrorism Center, (NCTC) Federal Bureau of Investigations, (FBI) and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is a booklet of likely behavioral indicators to help the public recognize when an extremist, or extremist group, is preparing for an attack. The purpose of this study is to determine individual and group level involvement in the January 6th, 2021, Capitol Breach, based on the indicators identified in the Mobilization Indicators Booklet (2021). The dataset is comprised of 107 individuals charged from January 6th, 2021, to May 31st, 2022. These individuals were grouped by Domestic Violent Extremist group affiliation, such as, Oath Keepers, Three Percenters, and Q Anon. These individuals were manually coded for each of the 42 indicators provided by the Mobilization Indicators (2021) booklet as well as demographic variables.
