Abstract
“Art is how we decorate space, music is how we decorate time” - Jean-Michel Basquiat. To that I say, why not both? Composing for film juxtaposes both auditory and visual media into one cohesive artform. Music for film serves one purpose: tell and support the story of the film. In this six stage demonstration I will provide creative insight on getting past writer's block, building atmosphere, writing melody and themes, producing accompaniment, writing for fight scenes, and creating development. In the future the author hopes to obtain the resources to work with live musicians for recording film music. This project was completed as a submission for the Indie Film Music Contest (indiefilmmusiccontest.com). The film was provided as a means of the contest, but all music content within the video is an original work produced by the author.
