Abstract

“The personal is political” was a popular slogan of the Women’s Liberation Movement during the 1960s, because it encapsulated the feminist ideology. Women became aware, through the sharing of personal experiences, that individual problems were common to all women as a result of women’s inferior status in society. Consciousness-raising sessions helped to bolster women’s self-confidence and enabled women to form a bond of sisterhood. The feminist ideology stressed the importance of collective action to gain equality in all spheres of society.
